The biggest challenge for all energy storage sources today is whether currently available energy storage solutions can be upgraded to terawatts to meet the growing demand for energy. The BloombergNEF global energy storage forecast for 2021 estimated that one terawatt of new stationary storage capacity will have to be added by 2030, which will be 20 times more than what we were having available in 2020. Luckily, plenty of zinc is available to meet this challenge. Unlike lithium and other elements, zinc is found worldwide and in large quantities. And, in today’s video, we are going to understand why the old zinc batteries could be the future of the energy storage industry. So, without any further delay, let’s jump straight into it. Batteries are becoming increasingly important in modern society. From electric vehicles to renewable energy, the demand for batteries is increasing as they become a key component of future green technology. Unfortunately, given the growing importance of these batteries, many experts anticipate battery shortages in the medium-term future. This is especially true for lithium batteries. Renewable energy sources such as wind and solar can help reduce the world’s dependence on fossil fuels. But first, energy companies need a safe and cost-effective way to store energy for later use. Large lithium-ion batteries can accomplish this task but suffer from safety concerns and the limited availability of lithium. So, what’s the solution?
